Murra Warra Wind Farm

Location: Victoria

Conceptually a 116-turbine wind farm, icubed consulting supported both Downer and Zenviron respectively in the 61-turbine Stage 1 Senvion Wind Farm and the 38-turbine Stage 2 General Electric Wind Farm. Situated in the flat Wimmera fields, the 220m blade tipped turbines can be seen rising above the fog for miles.

The flat, silty nature of the local environment posed a decent engineering challenge for the works. With the nearest hard rock quarry over 100kms the final project design consisted of over 60kms of new and upgraded tracks built from a combination of in situ stabilised materials and stablised sandy materials borrowed from an on site developed and approved quarry.

Working closely with the landholders, the final infrastructure layout was tweaked with bespoke hardstand arrangements to facilitate a layout that both maximised the turbine generation while staying perfectly parallel with the GPS controlled grain planting systems.

Two separate foundation designs were implemented across the two project stages to deal with the unique embedded can of the Senvion tower and the bolt cage arrangement of the GE Cyprus Platform.

icubed thanks RES, Dower and Zenviron for trusting us with the design and documentation of such an iconic project.
