The UQ Lakes Walkway project is part of a $5.2 million redevelopment involving the design of a series of covered walkways and footbridges providing pedestrian access between the Eleanor Schonell Bridge (Green Bridge) bus terminus and the main campus in conjunction with Cox Rayner Architects.
The project combined a high level of architectural detail with functionality to accommodate the universities increasing pedestrian traffic entering via the busway.
Liaising with the architect, client and builder, icubed consulting were responsible for the structural design of the walkway canopies and pedestrian pathways and ensuring the architectural aesthetics were achieved within the project budget.
The project utilised renewable and recyclable resources in its design, such as the use of solar panels and Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) boardwalk by Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies.
The infrastructure will complement the Brisbane City Council’s new CityCat terminal near Eleanor Schonell Bridge and will assist in addressing the disabled access issues in the area.
