Western Downs Regional Council had requested a proposal for the design of a single span pedestrian bridge to replace the existing timber bridge crossing Myall Creek in Dalby.
icubed consulting were commissioned to undertake the design and certification of Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (WCFT) 24m Span, 3.0m wide (2.0m trafficable width) pedestrian footbridge. The 16 tonne Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Bridge was pre-assembled in Toowoomba, transported to site in a single piece and installed in only a couple of hours. The bridge was designed to withstand pedestrian loads of 24.5 tonnes, more than 1.5 times its’ own weight and complete inundation during flood events.
This is the longest single span Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) structure that has been completed by Wagners CFT and required a high level of design computational effort and R&D to validate the design. High level vibration frequency analysis was completed using Finite Element Analysis Software to assess serviceability performance under normal pedestrian movements expected in the area.
