icubed consulting were engaged by Zenviron to complete the structural foundation design and associated civil works for the 66/33 kV electrical substation as part of the Lal Lal wind farm project. Key structural elements of a wind farm substation include a piled foundation solution to support an oversize switch room building and a concrete support slab to house an electrical transformer, weighing upwards of 90 tonnes. Strip and pad type foundations of varying configurations are also considered in the design solution to optimise supply quantities while ensuring ease of construction. The layout of a substation must also consider the local topography and how it ties in with the overall stormwater drainage network.

Icubed have completed the design and documentation on a number of successfully delivered wind farm substation projects of varying sizes across Australia. The team continue to develop their skills in this area, incorporating previous lessons learnt, to continue to provide clients with innovative and value-driven outcomes.
