Location Tweed Heads, NSW
icubed consulting were engaged by Multispan Australia to undertake value engineering and redesign for the Jack Evans Boat Harbour redevelopment at Tweed Heads. icubed consulting were also engaged to assist in the development of the Construction Environmental Management Plan and to provide an environmental audit and inspections during the construction phase. The boat harbour had a number of sensitive species including marine life and sea-grass beds that could have been impacted by the construction works.
In consultation with Multispan and the Tweed Shire Council icubed were able to implement innovative design techniques such as cantilevered precast sheet pile walls and FRP Composite boardwalks, including driven FRP Composite piles for an elevated section.
Working with previous environmental reports from Tweed Shire, icubed assisted Multispan in developing a construction environmental management plan that would afford the best environmental protection during construction. The nature of the works in the harbour and on the edge of the harbour presented a number of environmental challenges; the damage to important sea-grass beds through sediment run-off from works had to be minimised and measures to reduce the generation of turbid plumes from works that were taking place in the water and on the water’s edge had to be implemented. A large portion of the works involved working below the high tide water mark; this resulted in large amounts of de-watering being required including treatment to manage any impacts from potential acid sulfate soils. icubed also undertook periodic environmental audits that were reported to council to demonstrate best construction environmental practice.
icubed and the contractor were able to value add, such that the complete scope of works was able to be delivered for council within their limited budget.
Multispan Australia were awarded the Master Builders 2011 “Gold Coast Civil Contactor of the Year” award for this project and icubed consulting were pleased to be a part of this successful team.
