icubed consulting engaged their multi-disciplinary skill-set on this Hitachi Construction Machinery project in Gunnedah, which has now reached Practical Completion and handover. Master Planning, Town Planning, Design and Project Management through construction, were undertaken by icubed to create a single point of contact for our Brisbane based client. Through constraints and feasibility analysis, we were able to de-risk this development for Hitachi, and continuous costing checks and local supply research, enabled us to develop a final design to meet brief and budget. Management through construction mitigated cost and time over-run and ensured unforeseen site conditions were dealt with efficiently.
The facility was built by local Gunnedah builder Rice Constructions, who handed over the keys recently for the purpose-built facility to Hitachi’s Gunnedah Team. The branch facility has been built to cater for Hitachi’s increased servicing and sales demand due to the growing mining sector in the Gunnedah area and surrounds. The 9300m2 site was selected parallel to the Kamilaroi Highway (a major highway running through north-west NSW) giving display machinery high visibility to passing traffic, together with convenience and ease of truck access to the major arterial highway.
The project includes a 250m2 modern office, 242m2 workshop and 1570m2 warehouse including mezzanine. The site and building are equipped with heavy duty slabs to accommodate construction machinery movement. Typical of recent Hitachi developments, icubed designed in steel plating over the slab outside the truck workshop area to withstand turning tracked vehicles, further protecting the slab. Specialist warehouse and workshop fit-out include 20T over-head crane, oil separator system and reticulated air. The oil storage area has been fitted with below floor level bunding, providing the warehouse forklift with a level surface, which has become a stringent feature required by Hitachi’s high level of safety.
