Hitachi Construction Machinery commenced looking for new facilities in 2006 to combine and expand their Brisbane and national operations for Mining Truck Assembling and the remanufacturing of wheel motor and cylinders.
icubed provided assistance initially developing master plans of different sites to cater for these buildings plus the requirements for the loading and storing of machines externally through the building. The masterplan included relocating their office staff to a new Brisbane Headquarters and the relocation of their branch facilities to this site.
icubed consulting provided a full range of services for the project including building design, structural, civil and hydraulic engineering. We also provided landscaping and energy efficiency design for the project.
The remanufacturing building is a labour intensive and a dust controlled environment. Each workstation is provided with all relevant services including oil drains, water, power and jib crane for servicing the wheel motors.
Hitachi looked to provide an improved workplace for their specialist staff and development of large crib areas with ample amenities were considered thoroughly to provide areas suitable for management and staff. The building concepts were to be primarily functional with a professional modern office finish. The building design incorporated different building materials over an entry focused building with clean roof lines to provide glazing and worker shading.
The truck assembly building requires the ability to lift trucks over one another in the production process and this resulted in the provision of two 80 tonne cranes with a 15m hook height and an 18.5m eaves height.
The waterway corridor also required flood modelling and investigation on the upgrade of street culverts.
Following planning approval, Hitachi requested icubed to be expert witnesses in the civil components of an appeal where on-site stormwater detention was the resulting outcome.
Hitachi’s office environment internationally is one of an ‘open plan’ nature and the office facilities have represented this with the inclusion of key meeting rooms with high acoustic value to support high level confidential discussions. icubed assisted in the tender review process and the construction is about to commence.
