Coober Pedy Renewable Hybrid Project

Commissioned 2017

Location Coober Pedy, SA

In the iconic mining town of Coober Pedy, EDL Developed an Off-Grid Wind-Solar-Battery Power Project. Icubed were incredibly fortunate to be involved in this innovative initiative. This ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency) funded project involved a combination of 4MW of wind, 1MW of Solar and 1MW of Battery Storage. The Coober Pedy Renewable Hybrid Project is anticipated to provide the Coober Pedy township and surrounds with approximately 70% renewable energy.

The wind farm component of the Coober Pedy Renewable Project, managed by Senvion, consisted of the construction of two of their MM92 Turbines towering 126m above the flat local landscape. icubed functioned as the civil and structural designers for our long-term construction partner OTM Civil Constructions. OTM undertook the balance of plant role for the wind farm as well as self-performing the Civil Scope of Works. These works included the construction of the two 300 cubic metre mass gravity foundations – a challenging logistical affair in such a remote and isolated part of Australia.

Coober Pedy marks the thirteenth successful project that icubed has worked alongside Senvion (formerly Suzlon) to deliver. It also marks the sixth renewable project that icubed have delivered with the team at OTM, proving a successful working relationship.
