This is a fantastic milestone for a significant project in Australia’s solar industry, which on completion, will be the first independently owned solar farm built to generate electricity under a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Telstra who are the corporate entity for the Emerald Solar Park PPA, will be using the energy generated to offset its high consumption of electricity, which accounts for about $200million in operating costs to the Telco giant.
Emerald Solar Park received planning approval to generate up to 80MW of energy using single axis tracking solar panels over 167 hectares – enough to power 16,000 homes. Proving that large scale solar projects have the timing advantage within the energy sector, RES Australia and icubed consulting took just under 5 months to achieve planning approval, and exactly 2 years from project conception to generation of first power.
The team at icubed consulting (Elizabeth Cruice, Travis Smith, Bridget Parge, Amy Pitt, Natasha Gouriev) were involved in the, development approval project management, planning, and civil engineering for Emerald Solar Park, and are pleased to see it achieve this latest milestone.
