icubed consulting are pleased to see progress on the Manly Meals on Wheels and community centre. icubed were proud to work with Architects Heathwood Cardillo and Wilson to provide energy efficiency and safety in the design services. The building stands proud on a hillside in Manly west and will have sweeping views westward towards the Brisbane skyline.
The design features extensive floor to ceiling southern and western facing glazing, to take advantage of the natural vista. Such extensive levels of glazing would typically present significant issues with meeting the energy efficiency requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC). icubed used the JV3 verification (Building Thermal Performance Modelling) to demonstrate the building would comply with the NCC energy efficiency provisions.
The approach provided the architect with valuable information on energy flows through the various building elements. This allowed for significant reductions in building envelope density without compromising the energy efficiency of the building.
