Jezzine Barracks Redevelopment, Townsville

In 2012, icubed consulting were commissioned to undertake the design and certification of Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (WCFT) Boardwalks and Viewing Decks for Jezzine Barracks Redevelopment. The redevelopment was a $40 million partnership between Townsville City council, the Queensland Government and the Australian Government to commemorate the military and Aboriginal heritage of the Kissing Point headland. The area is now a thriving community hub full of local aboriginal artwork and recreational areas.

icubed’s scope of works covered all of the Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) components of the project. This included the 230m boardwalk on the edge of Kissing Point, six over-water bridge features on site and two viewing platforms, one of which overlooks Magnetic Island and is an important feature to the development. The site area of these structures total over 600m2.

The sub-structures were constructed from FRP components, this included joists, bearers, blocking and columns and were delivered to site from Toowoomba in Southern Queensland. All handrail members and decking were constructed using treated hardwood timber.
