icubed was commissioned by Wagners Composite Fibre Technology to undertake the detailed design and certification of a Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) boardwalk structure on the coast of Brighton, South Australia.
The project involved the construction of four boardwalk structures totalling 1900 square meters and seven viewing decks covering a total of 160 square meters. The entire site is scattered along the forefront of Brighton Beach and has transformed the area into a scenic community hub.
The boardwalk and viewing deck structures have been designed with a typical decking, joist, bearer and column arrangement made up of Wagners Pultruded Fibre composite members. The design brief for the structure was based on a pedestrian live load of 5kPa and is approximately 4m wide. Because of the proximity to the ocean, all of the handrails and structural connections have been designed using marine grade 316 stainless steel for longevity of the structure.
