icubed consulting were engaged by Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (WCFT) to undertake the detailed design and certification of a new 40m pedestrian bikeway under Kelvin Grove Road, Enoggera. The bikeway installation is a key component that will create a safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists to travel from Bancroft Park, under the busy Kelvin Grove Road and onto the Enoggera Creek Bikeway.
Brisbane City Council were looking to work with building materials that are considered to be low maintenance and would provide longevity for the structure into the future. WCFT were commissioned to undertake the design of the above ground bikeway elements. The bikeway consists of four 10m span sections of Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) girders and decking with a traffic width of 3.0m.
The four spans of the bikeway were craned into position in four separate modules. Each module was constructed in-house at Wagners CFT factory in Toowoomba and transported to site in Brisbane. The installation process was completed within hours of delivery at site and the remaining components, such as handrails and additional decking panels, were installed over the next few days.
