In 2013 the Brisbane Exhibition Grounds underwent an extensive rejuvenation project completed by the RNA and Lend Lease. As part of the extensive landscaping works, Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies Manufacturing were contracted to design and construct over 130 precast elements for seating and retaining walls using their ‘Earth Friendly Concrete’. Geopolymer concrete is made using waste products from steel manufacture as the binder rather than Ordinary Portland Cement, which is a very high consumer of energy and therefore Carbon pollution.
icubed consulting undertook the design verification of these concrete elements including evaluation of lifting, transportation and installation stresses. Now complete for the 2014 Brisbane Exhibition, icubed were proud to have been involved in this exciting project, using world leading concrete technology.
