Transformer slab pour as part of the substation

The Lal Lal Wind Farm project is just one of a few projects currently being delivered by icubed consulting’s renewables division. The project is comprised of 60 Wind Turbine Generators across two sites: Yendon (38) and Elaine (22), which are located approximately 20 km Southeast of Ballarat. The Wind Farm, once operational will have a generating capacity of approximately 220MW, enough to power approximately 95,000 homes per year.

The team at Zenviron are working with local contractor Carey Civil to carry out the Balance of Plant works for the project, in a consortium with turbine supplier, Vestas. Despite the challenging and unfavourable weather conditions, the civil works construction and foundation excavations are progressing steadily.  Zenviron have prepared and paved several kilometres of internal access track, six crane hardstands and poured blinding concrete bases in as many foundation excavations in preparation for the first Wind Turbine Generator foundation pour scheduled for late August.

One of the major challenges for the project is overcoming the poor ground conditions in combination with the consistent inclement weather. icubed and Zenviron are working towards sustainable ground improvement solutions for the project, which will reduce emissions associated with heavy vehicle haulage and minimises heavy vehicle traffic along the adjacent public roads.
