Capital Wind Farm
Scope of Work
icubed consulting were engaged by Built Environs to undertake the detailed design and documentation of the foundations for a 141 megawatt Wind Farm located near Canberra.
The ground conditions at this site comprised of very strong and competent granite, with strengths of up to 350 MPa. icubed consulting devised an innovative design utilising the competence of the rock and high capacity rock anchors drilled 17 metres into the rock. This enabled the foundation to be designed with a significantly smaller foot print reducing the extent of excavation in rock, and significantly reducing the concrete consumed per foundation to only 90 cubic metres, compared to a traditional gravity foundation approximately one third of the concrete was consumed.
In addition to the Capital Wind Farm project, icubed and Built Environs also collaborated on a further 5 projects. icubed consulting is an active participant in the renewable energy market having undertaken the detailed design and documentation of roads, environmental management, and foundations for approximately 12 of Australia’s major Wind Farm projects with an installed capacity in excess of 600 MW.
